FOS: Educational Objective and Graduation

The Fachoberschule (FOS) aims at students who have completed at least 10 years of formal education (Certificate of Intermediate Education/mittlerer Schulabschluss) and who intend to take their university entry exams (Fach-Abitur). Our school provides a general education and theoretical as well as practical training. Students spend half of Grade 11 at school attending lessons and half in businesses and companies, health care facilities, offices etc. completing their practical training. There are five areas of interest to choose from:

  • Social Studies
  • Commerce and Business Administration
  • Life Science and Health Care Management
  • Art & Design
  • Technology

 

We offer three different graduation certificates:

Fachhochschulreife: (after two years – Grades 11 and 12)

  • Access to any course at universities of applied sciences/polytechnics (Fachhochschule)
  • Entry into upper civil service (Bavarian Beamtenfachhochschule/Ausleseverfahren)
  • Better qualification for the labour market and more job opportunities

Fachgebundene Hochschulreife: (after three years – Grades 11, 12 and 13)

  • Requirement to attend grade 13: GPA of 3.0 in the Fachhochschulreife diploma
  • Access to certain courses at university according to area of interest; e.g. students of the technology department may only enrol in STEM faculties
  • No second foreign language required

Allgemeine Hochschulreife: (after three years – Grades 11, 12 and 13)

  • Requirement to attend grade 13: GPA of 3.0 in the Fachhochschulreife diploma
  • Full access to university
  • Extra requirement: Proficiency in two foreign languages

 

Proof of proficiency in a second foreign language:

  • Language classes at the FOSBOS in 12th and 13th grade (French, Spanish or Latin) – Course in 13th grade has to be passed with 4 or more points.
  • supplementary examination at the FOSBOS; passing grade: 4
  • Language classes at Realschule or Gymansium: 4 consecutive years of instruction, passing grade: 4
  • Official proof by means of a certificate from a public educational institution in Germany
