BOS: Educational Objective and Graduation

The Berufsoberschule (BOS) aims at students intending to take their university entry exams (Fach-Abitur) who have completed at least 10 years of formal education (Certificate of Intermediate Education/mittlerer Schulabschluss) and a completed vocational training or at least five years of work experience.

The BOS is a full-time school and provides a general education as well as theoretical training. According to their vocational training students are allocated to one of the five tracks below:

  • Social Studies
  • Commerce and Business Administration
  • Life Science and Health Care Management
  • Art & Design
  • Technology

 

We offer three different graduation certificates:

Fachhochschulreife: (after one year – Grade 12)

  • Access to any course at universities of applied sciences/polytechnics (Fachhochschule)
  • Entry into upper civil service, e.g. administration (Bavarian Beamtenfachhochschule/Ausleseverfahren)
  • Better qualification for the labour market and more job opportunities

Fachgebundene Hochschulreife: (after two years – Grades 12 and 13)

  • Access to certain courses at university according to area of interest; e.g. students of the technology department may only enrol in STEM faculties
  • No second foreign language required

 

Allgemeine Hochschulreife: (after two years – Grades 12 and 13)

  • Full access to university
  • Extra requirement: Proficiency in two foreign languages

 

Proof of proficiency in a second foreign language obtainable from:

  • Language classes in grades 12 and 13 at the FOSBOS (French, Spanish or Latin) – Course in 13th grade has to be passed with 4 or more points.
  • supplementary examination at the FOSBOS; passing grade: 4
  • Language classes at Realschule or Gymansium: four consecutive years of instruction, passing grade: 4
  • Official proof by means of a certificate from a public educational institution in Germany
